Happy St. Patty’s Day, and Fire Hose Design and Story Video

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! This is one of the best holidays of all holidays – you go out, party, and have a good time. And might we suggest playing Slam Bolt Scrappers when you stumble home? The game even has a beverage mode, my friends! Play with one hand!

Something absolutely incredible that just went up on the PlayStation Blog is an incredible video and interview of the steps we went through at Fire Hose to make Slam Bolt Scrappers. I would get into details but really Rey and Sid made such an amazing video that it just speaks for itself. Watch the video below, and check out the full interview on the PS Blog. It’s really amazing.

Over the next few days we’ll be getting into nuts and bolts details of the design phases we went through making the game, and really dive into what we cut and what made it into the final version. It should be a while ride! N4G will be posting these as well, so it’ll be great to interact with that community of gamers.

Development Blog: T-Minus 4 Days to Contest Submissions

The submission will not be delayed by bad weather, faulty wiring, or cracked heat panels. WE'VE COME TOO FAR FOR THIS PEOPLE.

We’re still in crunch hell so no real post today, other than a few tantalizing tidbits of what’s to come in the following weeks:

  • Unveiling of our game’s title! I promise it will contain the word “badger” at least 15 times.
  • A video showing how we roll here at Fire Hose.
  • The first images, teasers, and art from our game.
  • Beer. Lots of it.
  • Some sweet Halloween costumes.

Wish us luck! Friday is when we pull the trigger on submitting to IGF and the Indie Game Challenge.

We’re looking for an Artist!

Man, I would totally do the art myself if I had the time. I'm super pro at using MS Paint, I've even been known to break out GIMP on occasion. WHAT NOW, ADOBE?

Our game is really coming along, and it looks like we might want some extra help getting our game looking amazing. So we’re putting out a call for an artist to help us out! The description is below, or you can check out the jobs page. If you happen to know refer an artist looking to us and we hire him/her we’ll hit you up with a finders fee (read: lotsa thank you beer + food).

Ideal candidates should be based in Boston or willing to move here, and should be super psyched at the prospect of working at an awesome new indie start up. Hopefully we’ll hear from some of our readers!

Job Opening – Artist: We are looking for a freelance or contract artist with preferably 3+ years of experience making video games. Generalist skills required, must have strong 2D and 3D background and the ability to create both compelling environments and characters. Proficiency in 3DS Max, Photoshop, and Illustrator required. Extensive video game knowledge a big plus, as is any previouis game design experience. We’re looking for a good collaborator who can work in an established style and also expand upon it, and is able to take feedback and give it. If there is a good fit the work could turn into a permanent position.
